What you need to know before choosing a bail agent over the internet |
If you search for a bail agent on the Internet the first thing you find is that there are so many!
Some claim to be able to post bond anywhere in the United States. Also since you are not new to searching the internet you realize that those at the top of any of the listing have paid dearly for their position. They are not there because they are necessarily better than all the others.
How do you find an agent that will best suit your needs and protects your interests?
First of all know that no agent has offices everywhere. If they write your bond out of their area they will have to use an agent in that community to post the bond. To get them to do so they pay them a “transfer fee” that will be passed on to you in addition to the 10% or minimum fee per bond.
Also know that if you call an agent in the county the defendant is incarcerated and they add a transfer fee to the cost of the bond then the agent you are dealing with is not local.
This could become a problem when you attempt to recover collateral when the case is over or more importantly making sure that court date information is received in a timely manner so you do not loose your bond all together.
So it is always best to find an agent who is experienced and resides in the same county that the jail. After all it is your money.
