You might ask why go out of your way to help those convicted of a crime? It takes over $16,000 a year to house a prisoner in the Pinellas County Jail and over $20,000 in any of Florida’s the prisons. There is no meaningful rehabilitative process in any facility and regardless of mandatory sentences or "three strikes" etc. Sooner or later they are going to get out.
